■What is ASTM INTERNATIONAL?
ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) is an international standards organization established in 1898. Originally founded to standardize material testing in the steel industry, ASTM now develops standards for a wide range of industries, covering materials, products, systems, and services. ASTM standards are created through a voluntary consensus process involving experts and stakeholders from around the world, and these standards are widely adopted by industries and government agencies in various countries. ASTM standards provide benchmarks for safety, quality, and technical specifications, contributing to improved reliability and efficiency in industry. The organization’s standardization efforts aim to enhance product quality, promote international trade, and support technological innovation. Today, ASTM manages approximately 12,000 standards.
